Boat Ride!

 I am excited to report that we were invited for a Sunday afternoon boat ride, and it was incredible! It was a wonderful end to a very busy, very undesirable week of weather. 

Sunday we awoke to a quiet, calm, peaceful morning full of sunshine. We attended church and then hurried outside to enjoy the sunshine. We walked down to the beach at the runway and walked the shoreline toward the dock in town. It was a gorgeous morning, and I took some beautiful photos. Our walked ended after we ran into Shane trying to get his skiff in the water. He invited us to go out on the boat with them in a couple hours. I was excited, but nervous because I like my feet on the shore. I do not walk in the ocean past my calves. I almost drowned in the ocean when I was ten, and I may have a few issues with water because of it. However, I really wanted to go out on the boat, and I was so glad I did. We saw a seal pup, otters, and a whale. The peace and calm out there along with the ocean wind blowing through my soul was spiritual. Brady would really like to go on a cruise;  maybe I would actually enjoy it. Warning! Huge photo dump below. I took way too many pictures out on the water, and I could not decide which ones to include, so they all were featured. 

St. Patrick's Day Fun!


We made Irish Potato Candy for St. Patrick's Day at School.


Everyone bailed when it was time to roll it into balls except Ruger.


He rolled his into the 3-D shapes he's been learning in math this week.


They were really sweet, but pretty good.

But Two! There were actually four, but two flew off.

These native Alaskan women are tough. I wish I felt like I could survive if the world goes to pot.
She tied her toddler to her back, got rods ready, and fished.
Fishing in the ocean is definitely different than lake fishing.




The boat stops, everyone chooses a spot and lets the line drop to the bottom.
Then you pull up and down hoping to catch something.


Carleen caught a Rock Fish. She threw it back. We were hoping for halibut.

The pass is much wider than is looks from the shore. That is the Bering Strait side.










That is the boat from the window. Only the little, little kids got to go, so he had to stay home,
but he did wave from the window.

Bradyn had spring break last week and got to go to South Carolina to meet his new cousin.

 This weekend was pretty amazing! It began with the most beautiful full rainbow that a student spotted from the classroom. Of course, we went out and admired its beauty. We then had a special treat of the docking of the monthly ferry. Why is the monthly ferry the best part of the month? I am glad you asked. It's the only time we get to order and eat restaurant food!!!! They send an email out with a menu the week prior to their arrival. We email our order and pick it up when the ferry docks. Can I just say that fish and chips and bacon cheeseburgers have never tasted so good. The french fries were fabulous and the desserts were simply decadent. Because of COVID orders can only be to go, but pre-COVID you could order and eat on the boat. Maybe we'll be lucky and get to eat somewhere other than our apartment before this adventure ends.  Saturday evening just might have been the most exciting evening yet, because we were privileged to witness three bears out in the wild. Bush Plane Wild Ride

 Never have I ever remembered feeling closer to death than I did Friday afternoon. I really wanted to get my ankle looked at. It was still super painful and swollen. I felt like it should be at least 10% better after almost a week of staying off it, and keeping it up and iced.  Initially, the plane from False Pass to Anchorage for Friday was full, but when I called back Friday morning to see if someone had cancelled, I was in luck and thought it was a sign. While sitting at the runway waiting for the plane the winds started up and the clouds rolled in. Brady was visibly getting worried, and I was thinking "it's fine, they wouldn't fly if it wasn't."  I got on the plane and Chris, our very young, very cute pilot informed me that it would be about 5 hours before we arrived in Anchorage because we are making 5 more stops. Cherish Sunsets, Wild Creatures, and Wild Places

 I can't stop taking pictures, but we all know this is one of my character traits/flaws. I don't think taking too many pictures can be considered a flaw. It's all about trying to capture the moment.  I was extremely busy this week, but I made sure I got out and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We only had one indoor rainy day the whole week. That was pretty awesome. I am settling into the principal role, fielding the stress of starting the school year minus three teachers. I have a great team of teachers who is being really positive and absorbing the extra work.  I finished the last class I had procrastinated taking to keep my Alaska educators license. That was a relief, and I finished it with four days to spare. I need to stop procrastinating.  Monday the 7th was a very long day at the school. I met a lot of staff and started problem-solving the schedule being short three teachers. By the time my day was done I really needed some outside fresh air. I was way too tired...
